NOTE TO LECK: ADD LINKS TO THE APPS
.
i haven't had as much luck as others have, but i wanted to give my personal experience with these dating services, and comment if they are good or bad and why. i tried several others, but i will not be including websites or apps i didn't find useful for one reason or another. every site i mention on this page is worth trying if you like the pros and can live with the cons. the information about the apps and websites here may be a couple years old, because i am not currently using all of these, and they do add and delete features over time.
.
match
.
this is the first i had reasonable success with. i would say this is better for rich people. if you earn under 25,000 a year and are honest in your profile, it will be harder to get matches (assuming you make your income public). in addition the best way to get dates is to go to the overpriced and crappy events. it's still the best way to get dates. you sign up for minimum 3 months with match for about a total of $150, and then each event is overpriced, and then if you meet someone you are going on another date with them at least. if you go to a public place and hand a potential date $200, that would have a better chance than paying match to find you a date. match is managed poorly. don't expect much of anything from the staff at match. half of the people i talked to and wrote with during my 3 months with match had cancelled their accounts before the 3 months was up. i did get a couple dates from match. i forget if this has an app version
.
okcupid
.
this is the first service i had success with and am still using. okcupid has a lot of customization, you get frequent matches, and even though it's totally usable for free, it's better to pay $20 per month or $10 if you pay for 6 months at a time. this also seems to be the most common way to find matches amoung word of mouth and what i read on websites. you want to start here if you don't mind paying $20 for a month. i do find the 'likes' and 'dislikes' are pretty permanent, so you get diminishing returns after using okc for a while. i would say in 2 months you will either find a match or you will never find a match. you are only out $40 if you don't find a match with this website. it can be used as a website or app, which is nice.
.
bumble
.
i just started this, and it looks good so far. i don't know if you can connect with matches for free or not. i will update this page when i find out (the paid apps and websites bait you by not telling you if you can connect until you get a match). bumble also is designed to make friends and make business connections. you can use it as a website or app
.
hinge
.
seems to be mobile app only, but it claims to be able to find you a date or match under the slogan "designed to be deleted" meaning you won't be using it for years. hinge seems to have a lot of users from what i read. i will be trying this soon.
.
tinder
.
this is worth mentioning only because it used to be free, and now it's not free, and might be free again. tinder is very superficial. you have a very short profile and tinder can be used as an app or website. if you want to pay for tinder it's relatively inexpensive. because of the amount of people who used to use tinder and may still use tinder, it's worth trying, but i think you have to pay to connect with anyone currently. i don't use tinder anymore. again tinder is very superficial because the only people who have had success i've heard from tinder have baby faces and pencil bodies. swipe as many as you can seems to be the best thing to spend time on when using tinder
.
eharmony
.
also worth mentioning even though i have not used it. i think eharmony is cheaper than match. some dating website and apps claim to be free but they really aren't free. i don't think eharmony claims to be free though.
.
second life
.
this is 100% free and is worth mentioning because a lot of people find dates and love on this. this is like 'the sims'. even though second life is very old, it's worth trying if you don't want to pay anything. it's harder to find someone nearby, but i've seen people relocate for love. it's a glorified chat room with a very impressive customizable world. just be ready to relocate or ask someone to relocate if you want a relationship in person from second life. this is the best way for free i've found to find a relationship. also a little bit of money goes a long way in second life if you want to pay. you can use this as an installed program on your phone or computer. i'm not sure if you can 'only' use an app with second life, so if you don't have a computer i would not suggest using second life.
